The Power of the Dog කියන්නේ 2021දී release වුණු slow-burn psychological drama/western film එකක්. මේ film එක direct කළේ Jane Campion. Main roles වලට Benedict Cumberbatch, Kirsten Dunst, Jesse Plemons සහ Kodi Smit-McPhee ඉන්නවා.

Review

මේක action-packed western movie එකක් කියලා හිතාගෙන බලන්න ගියොත් ටිකක් surprise වෙන්න පුළුවන්. “The Power of the Dog” කියන්නේ gun fights වලට වඩා මිනිස් mind එකේ dark side එක, ego, loneliness, jealousy සහ hidden emotions ගැන ගොඩක් subtle විදිහට කියන film එකක්.

Story එක set වෙන්නේ 1920s Montana ranch environment එකක. Phil Burbank (Benedict Cumberbatch) කියන්නේ rough, intimidating cowboy කෙනෙක්. එයාගේ brother George calm හා gentle character එකක්. George, Rose කියන widow කෙනා එක්ක marry වෙනකොට Phil එයාව psychologically torment කරන්න පටන් ගන්නවා. ඒ අතර Roseගේ පුතා Peter film එකේ most interesting character එකක් වෙනවා.

Benedict Cumberbatchගේ performance එක literally outstanding. Marvel films වල දැකපු polished character එකෙන් totally වෙනස් raw, aggressive role එකක් මෙතනදී දෙනවා. Kodi Smit-McPheeත් creepy-but-smart vibe එකක් ගෙනෙනවා.

Film එකේ biggest strength එක atmosphere එක. Silence, background music, camera shots — ඔක්කොම tension build කරනවා. සමහර scenes වල dialogue almost නැති තරම්, ඒත් screen එකෙන් pressure එක feel වෙනවා. Cinematography එක absolutely beautiful. Vast landscapes එක්ක lonely emotional tone එක perfect match වෙනවා.

හැබැයි මේක everyoneට fit වෙන film එකක් නෙවෙයි. Pace එක slow. Story එක direct explanation දෙන type එකක් නෙවෙයි. Viewerට details observe කරන්න වෙනවා. Ending එකත් subtle twist එකක් වගේ — immediately explain නොකරන type එකක්. ඒ නිසා thoughtful cinema කැමති අයට නම් මේක masterpiece level experience එකක් වෙයි.
